I am Nihira — a freelance communications worker with over six years of personal and professional experience building stories for those engaged in radical work. In 2022, International Booker Prize winner Geetanjali Shree awarded me the Rama Mehta Trust's 2022 English Fiction Writing Grant. A year earlier, I started building Syaahi, a writers' cooperative that attempts to level the playing field for marginalised freelance writers in India. Over 3,000 people have joined the initiative through Whatsapp. For Syaahi, I also developed a public writers' dashboard with free access to a range of opportunities and resources aimed at writers primarily based in India, with some offerings scattered across South Asia.
